My coach always says that a leader needs to serve first. I take this as proving that you are in it for the welfare of the team and not yourself. And always pushing yourself to being better. For my team this helps them push themselves and they respect me when I give them advice or encourage them.

yea sarah thanks cause i think that its because everyone on my team does get butt hurt way to easily and thats why i have hard time pushing everyone to become better... aha they are just like you said being girls and taking it way to personally!! but thanks everyone this helped

Leading by example is good but you also need to push your teammates. There is a difference between being a teammate and being a friend. When you're on the field nothing is personal (although since we are girls we tend to take everything personally). If you notice a teammate is slacking and say something like "hey you need to pick it up, or hey, you're better than that" they should still be able to be your friend after. They need to know that what you're doing is best for the team and not personal. I was a captain on my college team for two years and looking back i wish I would have pushed my teammates more than what i did, rather than thinking about what they would think about me after I did.

Try to lead by example, and talk a lot when your on the field or in the dugout. And really just stay positive. They will listen to you so don't worry about that to much. Good luck
