Just like the the Majestic grizzly bear, spring is the time when ball players emerge from their caves, shake off the sleep and get back into the real world. i spent very little time doing baseball specific activities, not getting to swing a bat at all, and only throwing once so far. The downside of living in manitoba canada, other than everything being way more expensive than in the states, is that i am currently looking out at my apartments balcony at about 3 feet of snow on the ground, and…

Hey all, quick question for you, specifically guys who pitch and train hard. What sort of leg workouts do you guys do/ are coached to do??
I'm really looking to build up my lower body and core this winter and am wondering if there are any really good ones out there i haven't thought of/ learned.
thanks

Question for y'all, who's your favourite player, current or possibly retired. and maybe a brief explanation why. If you want to throw out a couple, maybe a pitcher and position player, that'd be cool too.
Personally, I'm a big Robbie Cano fan. Yep, the Yankees. okay, continuing on. I just love his confidence, and clean swagger that he has. Also he has a rocket arm for a second baseman, and maybe the purest swing outside of Griffey jr. thats, my opinion, i know comparing anyone to Jr.…

hey all, just got to get some shit off my chest. it's around my coach, i don't know if anyone else has coaches who are, for lack of a better word, useless sacks of shit. our team has been struggling to produce runs, and you would think that our coaches should be trying to give advice on plate approaches, tips on hitting stance/ swing. no. he just sat on the bench and said nothing, griped at us for mistakes, and generally just pouted like a fucking child about our performance. it was…

As i may have mentioned in an earlier blog, when i was 17 years old i played for a provincial team, along with three other teams and blew out my shoulder. More specifically i developed an impingement in my shoulder, caused when the tendons in the shoulder are repeatedly passed in between two of the bones in the shoulder ( head of humerus and the acromion process of the scapula) and they rub and become inflamed, and even some micro-tearing occurred as well. this affliction can be mild and…

right off the bat, gonna say, i'm sorry if you're expecting a baseball blog. this isn't it. not today, today i need to get some things off my chest and this is the only place i have to do it and feel safe and hopefully get some feedback.
it's about a girl, then again, when is it not. so again, if you don't want to hear about my emotional problems. one more chance to leave.
in honour of twiiter, i will refer to her as oomf. any one, i dated oomf for 6 months ( ya not a long…

Hey all, most of us are probably on twitter and a lot of us probably tweet or check it rather religiously, and today's post is going to be short and to the point.
Who are your favourite Ballplayers, teams PR pages, network/ online source, and obviously cleatchasers (anons and otherwise).
i don't follow any PR pages, cuz most of them are boring. like snoozefest show the line-up and retweet anything about the weather or anything that @MLB posts about their team. wish they'd be…

what drives you?? what makes you get up early on the weekend so you can go toss or head to the cages, what gets you to games early?? this stems from a question my coach asked our team after our last loss, along with my own thoughts.
If you're doing this for someone else, a parent that pushes you to succeed, a friend who needed an extra body on the team or a girl who only dates ball players, maybe you need to look within yourself, to find out whether or not, those are reasons that make…

baseball means so many things, so many different things to different people, and that's what makes it such a fantastic sport. For some, it is a source of social activity, some active free time, or some nice time spent outdoors. these folks may not take the game overly seriously, but they still understand and appreciate the intricacy that the game entails. beyond these people are the recreational enthusiast, those that play the game competitively but not so much that the spirit to win is the…

I'm a yankees fan. Bring the hate, just let me explain why, and how i became a yankees fan. Firstly, i'd like to explain why i'm bringing this up. I was asked last night on twitter about this exact topic by a claeat chaser (@CleatChaserSays, she's a beauty. let her know @nichlovatt told you to follow her) And it got me thinking. Why am i a fan of them, it's clearly not a geographically matter, if it were, i'd be a Twins fan, or like most Canadians, a Jays fan. actually my dad was ( and for…

As requested, i will put my two cents into the pot about the college World Series. to be completely honest, i have some limited knowledge about some of the schools, so some serious research was needed for me to make an education decision as to who i think could win it all, however my biased opinion for which team i want to win, I'd love to see Florida win it all. Being a Canadian, i have the luxury of picking one (or more, varying on sports) american college to cheer for. For basketball (…

Just finished watching the Yanks walk-off the Mets (hate on me for being a Yanks fan if you want, been one since '98) and it got me thinking about different celebrations. walkoffs, bombs, double plays, whatever, and thinking about the different celebrations i've seen or been a part after these events.
the most memorable, and ironically most anti-climatic celebration i was a part of was in Midget (16-18 yr olds) AAA provincials finals. our team was really good and we came from the more…

I just got back from the batting cages (my dad tossed for me, I love that man [if your tosses BP to you, let him know how much you appreciate him]) where i had an Epiphany with my swing. I had been struggling with power and getting around on inside pitches. about 20 pitches in i was frustrated about how long my swing was getting. i took a couple of practice swings and noticed that my hands were swaying too far forwards, in front of my body. I made a conscious adjustment to pull my hands in…

Hey all, not really sure what to talk about today. I have some random thoughts, but nothing that i feel i can turn into a legit blog worth reading. I'm goona try and patch them together, if i can.
first off, i have a question for the CleatChasers out there, what's your opinion on umpires? Along with playing ball, I umpire youngers kids games, and at some of them i can't help but notice some Chasers (or older sisters, at the really young kids games), and i wondered, though obviously…

today i will discuss the reason we're all all this site. we Love baseball. plain and simple, well maybe not; some of our reasons for loving this game are terribly complex. In an earlier blog (see- Rambling of a ball player) i explained to some point why i love this game and why i owe my life to baseball. But that is only one reason, one which i won't be revisiting today. However i have many other reasons as to why i love all aspects of the game.
When i tell people that my favorite…

Hey all, this blog may not be for all of you, because it covers a somewhat touchy subject. faith, religion, beliefs, God, or whomever you worship. I want to know what part God has in your life, on and off the field.
It is often heard in post-game interviews, or at the end of the year after a championship run that some athletes will thank God, or Jesus Christ for blessing them. I have a hard time with this..., i don't believe that God favours any one team, God doesn't have favourites…

I know a few of you are rather entrepreneur-ey and are running some small (or larger) businesses and I know of a few others that i'd like to give props to.
First off, 22 fresh, those guys know what swag is, constantly pumping out some of the freshest clothing i have seen. They also make super high quality pants, durable belts, and though i have never used or know anyone who uses their bats, i can only assume they are of the same high standards the rest of their merchandise is kept…

Baseball doesn't end with the last pitch, it doesn't end after you raise the trophy. For true baseball players, the guys who live for ball, Baseball is a 12 month investment. Maybe not throwing or cage work, but putting some sort of work in to get better for next year. Off-season workouts. Some love them, others dread them, but we all know we should do them. As a Physical Education student, I am taking many fitness and exercise related courses, so fitness always holds some interest for me.…

Everyone wants to look their best on the field, get the cleat chasers to notice us a bit quicker, but we still need the functionality of a ball uniform. that's where Swagger lies in my opinion. My own personal swag, probably not that great. I rock the Oakley's (prescription) and tape the wrists in white, rock the flare pants, but all pretty basic stuff.
The Pros, now they got swag for days. A few of my personal favourites are Yunel Escobar, he has some dope cleats, a fresh looking…

I think we can all agree that our gloves are our babies, we treat them preciously off the field so they are primed for performance on the field. We all have preferences, size web style, company.
I personally prefer Rawlings for my gloves. When i pitched [pre-injury] i wore a Heart of the Hide PRO200-4P 11.5 Oxblood glove. has the Modified trap-eze web for versatility sake. I thought about getting the 2 piece solid web but didn't like the thought of using it at third base, which was…
